The Rear View

Submitted by Jayant Rajpurohit on February 1, 2009 – 3:50 pmNo Comment

Much has been said and written about the acts of barbarism that took place in Mumbai on the dreadful day of 26th November. Hence it leaves very little to be explained and clarify on the subject, proving to be a challenge for an amateur writer like me to express views on the attacks. We at the desk of “The Infinitio” certainly felt it would be rhetoric to condemn the violence and pray for the deceased and the martyred, though, our love for the motherland and our brethren cannot be questioned at any point.

I have been going through a lot of articles lately and found repeatedly them enumerating the same faults in the lethargic and casual role of the government. Similarly on the resilient front the news carried the same information and views; of mourning, of remembrance and recollection of ourselves. Out of all these, the idea of keeping a silence for two minutes caught my special attention. I do realize the importance of this act, but the very essence of this noble gesture has changed . There has been a dramatic shift in the intension of the people participating and those reminding to participate.

My heart pains when I say that, we do not silence ourselves to awaken our conscience but rather to numb it. We do not silence ourselves to ponder what went wrong but to overlook it. We do not silence ourselves to look for a solution to the problem but to turn away from it. The act so proudly sponsored by our ‘dear’ and always ‘concerned’ politicians has rather become a way of telling the people that they must move ahead and forget what has happened. We like puppets without souls think we are brave and are doing the right thing by shutting our eyes to the reality and hanging our heads in shame as though we are impotent of responding.

It is time that we respond severely and with a determination and intent that this act must not happen again. Brethren its time we performed another act to salute those who toiled to end the massacre , for at least two minutes we must raise our heads with dignity and open our eyes to witness the reality. Up to what extent are we going to keep playing in the hands of the politicians and do as they tell us to do. They have pushed us farther and farther towards our limits now we must make them realize that we have no limits left.

Rise my friends , rise to protect your honor and rise to shed the tag of impotency to show that our national will and strength. I ask you to not divert focus from the promising prospects future but look in the rear view mirror, the happenings bygone. Look in the mirror the ghost of the happenings have not stopped, but is chasing us and threatening to haunt us till we respond The cynics may say that the events have long gone and the journey must continue, hold remember “things in the rear view are closer than they appear”.
