JASWANT SINGH BOOKED

jinnah
Jinnah India-Partition-Independence” has recently created large uproar in the country because this is a book from a BJP leader(Jaswant Singh) on a muslim leader(Mohammad Ali Jinnah). This is a totally contradicting situation but somewhat good .The author has tried to portray a picture of Jinnah as he saw it and it is for readers to draw their own conclusion. Mr. Singh told that he did a lot of research as Jinnah’s journey from an ambassador of hindu-muslim unity to Quaid-e-Azam. But the saddest part was the reaction showed by his party. He was unceremoniously thrown out by them when he had specially come for a meeting in Shimla .Such a treatment ,and that too to a senior leader like Jaswant Singh was totally bleak. BJP just showed its worst side to the country .Moreover there is a ban imposed on the book in Gujrat , the state ruled by BJP , which is an intellectually retrogressive step. Burning and banning of books is a medieval exercise .this step raises a questions -,”Are we so fragile a society that even a book on Jinnah can scare us” .Reports say that the book sold over 40,000 copies. Good for you Mr. singh after all your book has become famous .But after this incident a different question arises -are we really living in a free country or its just another country where expressing your views can lead you to so many complexities ?The party which you served 30 years didn’t even take 30 seconds to fire you. Will we ever get up from these hindu -muslim stories ? Will we be ever able to digest things which we may not agree to?
