LG ICC Awards 2009 : Shortlisters
Indians Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are in the running for the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy – as is Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson, despite his own disappointing Ashes tour this summer.
England’s Ashes-winning captain Andrew Strauss is among four players short-listed for the International Cricket Council’s cricketer of the year award.
Strauss, Gambhir and Johnson are also still in with a chance of the Test player-of-the-year award, alongside Sri Lanka’s Thilan Samaraweera.
The success of England’s all-conquering women’s team is reflected with the shortlisting of Claire Taylor and Charlotte Edwards for Cricketer of the Year awards.
They will discover who has won when the awards are presented at the sixth annual LG ICC awards in Johannesburg on October 1.
There are eight individual prizes, as well as awards for the Test and one-day international Teams of the Year and the Spirit of Cricket.
