In mid 1990s many search engines were being developed. Many of them were starting and       then getting folded up. But there were 2 men who were making the ultimate search engine.         They were “Larry Page” and “Sergey Brin” from Stanford University. In 1999 with a starting       capital of $100000, they found it “Google”. Whenever we go for internet the first thing which     comes to our mind is Google. Whatever you want to find you just type in Google page and you get hundreds of thousands of results. Maximum percentage of internet users today use Google. In 2005 Google had a gross turnover of $6.1 billion and a net profit of $1.5 billion. Google makes its money by advertising. Whenever you use Google, you find your search results on the left side of the page and the advertisements related to that search on the right hand side. So Google is giving enough opportunity even for start-ups for competing with renowned firms on advertising platforms. It is trying in every possible way that its users don’t have to read newspapers or even see television or move on to some other search engine so as to remain updated in this fast world. Today Google has made the web search much more convenient for its users, so why should they move on for some other search engine. It is now also providing printed materials and books online from various libraries. In various ways Google is trying to attract more and more users.

But there are various questions which generally don’t come into our mind like Wouldn’t be Google a monopolistic brand over the whole internet market ?

Wouldn’t it lead to the homogeneity among the ideas of people using the same search engine all over the world?

Yes it may because same queries-same results-and then same opinions. That is all which could end up with. So don’t you think that there is a need of some search engine may be better than Google which could not only attract internet users towards it but also lead people to have distinctive views regarding same things?

Only then better would come out of good, because there can’t be a good government without a strong opposition.

I hope our leaders learn to draw the same line.

The austerity drive has only brought out one of the most depressing face of Indian politics, which has always been revolving around issues which hardly affect the problems of the common people. Be it the statues, parks or Mhd Ali Jinnah’s secularism –  Indian politicians are most vociferous and enthusiastic. But when it comes to pertinent issues like unemployment, suicide of farmers, electricity etc. we somehow do not find such zeal among the leaders.

Even in this case we find political parties either trying to despise the charade or support it vehemently. Nobody seems to be worried about the plight of the people who are at the receiving end of this whole global meltdown. Those congress party leaders who traveled by executive class are now traveling by the economy class or the first class railway compartments. How austere! If traveling in the economy class was austere enough for the common people, whom the congress is showing solidarity with, Indian aviation industry would not have been in such a bad shape. For most commuters traveling in first class railway facilities or airplane (any class), is a luxury and not austerity. I guess Shashi Tharur’s infamous cattle class comment on the way Indian commuters travel will not seem too wrong to his detractors (whatever way they interpreted it)  if they take out time to just have a look at the way so many common people travel in the general compartments of the trains. Here too, what appalls the leaders more is the comment on the way ordinary people travel, and not their actual plight.

If this whole exercise saved some substantial amount of taxpayer’s money, this would’ve still been understandable. But if you take into consideration the cost incurred in providing extra security to the “VIPs”, you’ll be left wondering-“is it really cheaper for them to travel like common people do?”

I have an idea for the leaders if they really want to save public money-“don’t waste the parliament time in walkouts and protests. Utilize it to discuss the problems of people for whom austerity, unlike the congress party, is a matter of compulsion and not choice. It will save millions of rupees every session.”
