New Maruti Suzuki Estilo

Maruti Suzuki ended the production of the original jellybean shaped hatchback named the Zen in November 2006. Back then it was the only ‘hot’ hatch around and was a runaway success from day one. It was replaced by a tall boy design Zen Estilo in December 2006. But this new car was more of a renewed version of the WagonR. It even had the same gear box. The offering failed to make a mark and was unable to live upto the ‘Zen’ brand name. It went on from being a hotseller to jus another small car.

So the people at Maruti Suzuki have now painstakingly redesigned the Estilo (dropping ‘Zen’ from the name) in an effort to rectify the errors they made with the earlier version. The exterior looks good. More on the lines of the Ritz. The interior more or less remains the same. But the major modifications are under the hood. Gone is the 1.1 litre WagonR borrowed engine and coming in is the new KB10 series engine doind duty in the A-Star delivering 68 PS @ 6200 rpm. Estilo is expected to deliver a fuel economy of about 18 km to a litre.

It is still a tall boy design but the new design and the engine has given the Estilo a new soul.

Mahindra Renault Sandero

After the success of their first offering, the Logan, Mahindra Renault are now looking to introduce another car in the same price range. But only this time, it will be a hatchback named the Sandero. It is expected to come to India with a choice of more than one engine. The company has put a lot of hard work into the design of the car to make it more appealing to the younger generation. Expect a far better looking car than the Logan, excellent driving comfort and interior space.

Expected Price: Rs 5 lacs

Chevrolet Cruze for India

Making it’s debut at the Paris auto show, the new sedan from the house of Chevrolet is expected to deliver the much needed power thrills in the Indian auto market. The Cruze will be launched in the same segment as the Optra Magnum but is expected to be noticeably costlier. The USBs here are a very futuristic sporty interior and a new 1.4 litre turbocharged engine.

Expected Price: Rs 12-13 lacs

Avante: Elantra’s successor for India

Avante, the successor to Hyundai’s sedan, the Elantra, is expected to sport a very contemporary look. Hyundai plans to offer 2 engine choices for the Avante i.e. a 2.0 litre VVT and a 1.6 litre CRDi version. Expect the sedan to arrive in late september,2009.

Expected improvements:

-Ride comfort improvement

-Improved suspension to tackle road imperfections

BMW Z4

The new BMW Z4 convertible retains the previous model’s sharp lines, but is all new from the ground up. Expect a choice of powerful yet efficient six-cylinder engines with either a sis-speed manual of the option of an automated seven-speed gearbox. BMW’s revised iDrive cabin control system appears on the Z4 for the first time.

AUDI Q5

Audi will add another model to the blooming luxury soft-roader market with the Q5, a smaller sibling of the Audi Q7. The compact Q5 casts the same size shadow as an Audi A4 sedan, so it’s easier to park in the city. The Q5 will have a choice of four engines- two petrol and two diesel.

Toyota Small Car Plans

Toyota Motors plans to develop a series of entry level segment cars of displacements between 1.2 and 1.5 litres. A new factory will come up by 2010 at Bangalore next to its already existing factory. Toyota’s new plant will have an annual capacity of 100,000 vehicles and will produce the Altis sedan and a new low cost small car, designed especially for emerging markets like India.

Toyota Fortuner for India

After a long wait, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially announced the launch of the Fortuner SUV in India in September 2009. At launch, the Fortuner will get a 3-litre common-rail diesel with 163PS of power and peak torque of 343Nm. Pricing will start at Rs 20 lakh which wilkl make it a direct rival for the Chevrolet Captiva which is the only diesel SUV in that segment.
